If there’s one blog post I’d tell you to read and take seriously, it’s this one. From one entrepreneur to another — I’m so passionate about this message because it’s a game changer. I really want you to hear this:
Stop telling yourself you can’t.
Seriously. Stop it. The words you speak — even the silent ones in your head — are commands to your brain. They’re not just harmless thoughts. They’re instructions. Every time you tell yourself:
- “This is too hard.”
- “I’ll never make it.”
- “The market’s too saturated.”
- “I’m not cut out for this.”
- “Now’s not the right time.”
- “The economy is too unstable.”
You’re not just expressing doubt — you’re writing the script your brain follows. You’re literally shaping what you’ll see, what you’ll notice, and what you’ll experience.
The Science Behind It
Let’s talk about your Reticular Activating System (RAS). It’s a network of neurons located in your brainstem, and it acts like a filter for your reality. You are exposed to millions of bits of information every second — but your brain can only consciously process about 40–50. So your RAS decides what’s important to show you based on what you’re consistently focusing on.
Your dominant thoughts tell your RAS what to filter in… and what to filter out.
So when you’re stuck in loops like:
- “Everything’s hard.”
- “Nothing’s working.”
- “I’ll never figure this out.”
Then your RAS will help confirm that by filtering in evidence that supports those beliefs — and filtering out possibilities, solutions, and opportunities.
You literally become blind to anything that doesn’t match the version of reality you keep repeating to yourself.
This isn’t fluff. It’s neuroscience.
In fact, studies show that our brain’s plasticity — or its ability to rewire itself — is real and ongoing. According to Dr. Michael Merzenich, a pioneer in brain plasticity research, “We are designed to be able to change and reprogram our brains throughout our lives.”
But you can’t change your brain if you keep telling it that change isn’t possible.
Your Thoughts Are Not Facts — They’re Habits
When I say stop telling yourself you can’t, I don’t mean to slap a “positive vibes only” sticker over your problems.
I’m talking about getting honest about the stories you keep repeating. About understanding that most of our limiting beliefs are learned — not factual.
➡️ You weren’t born believing you can’t. You were taught that somewhere along the way.
And you can unlearn it, too.
The first step is awareness — start catching your internal dialogue. Would you speak to your best friend the way you speak to yourself? If not, it’s time to choose better words.
What To Start Saying Instead:
Try:
- “I’m figuring this out.”
- “I’ve done hard things before.”
- “I’m allowed to try and grow.”
- “Success is possible for me, too.”
- “I’m learning, not failing.”
Is it going to feel fake at first? Yep. But repetition is how neural pathways are built. That’s neuroplasticity in action. Keep showing up for yourself, and you will start believing differently.
Why Am I Telling You This?
Because I’ve lived it.
I’ve been in the thick of the mindset muck. I’ve believed the lies my inner critic told me. I’ve gone to battle with limiting beliefs that nearly convinced me to quit before I even got started.
And because I’ve walked through it — and I’m standing on the other side — I’m determined to help others realize that you can literally shift your thinking and create the life and business you want.
I say this with full conviction not just because I’ve felt it, but because I’ve studied it. I’m a total neuroscience nerd, and I’m obsessed with understanding — and sharing — the truth behind why this mindset stuff actually works.
This isn’t just about thinking happy thoughts or slapping on an affirmation when things get hard.
👉 It’s about understanding how your brain filters your world.
👉 It’s about rewiring your responses, changing your habits, and building new neural pathways.
👉 It’s about shaping your future by being intentional with what you think, say, and believe.
Mindset isn’t magic — it’s mechanics. And when you understand it, you become unstoppable.
A Few Stats That Might Wake You Up
- 85% of people suffer from low self-esteem (National Institute of Mental Health).
- We have about 60,000 thoughts per day, and 80% of them are negative and repetitive.
- Entrepreneurs with a growth mindset are significantly more likely to succeed, according to research by psychologist Carol Dweck.
Mindset is not a soft skill — it’s a success skill.
Final Truth:
Stop telling yourself you can’t.
Because every time you do, you close the door on a version of you that’s just waiting for you to open your eyes and see what’s possible.
Start using your words as tools for growth, not weapons of self-sabotage.
You can. You’re allowed. You’re capable. Now let’s get to work.
